It also makes it simple to restrict the types of stone used by configuring these stockpiles - my intention for my current fort is that every single rock craft and piece of furniture will be obsidian. These will fill up, but that isn't a problem - I'm not trying to stockpile all the stone or anything like it. ![]() I put small stockpiles near any of the rock using workshops, which my peasants keep filled up so my skilled dwarves don't have to drag heavy stone around for miles. The rocks are still there and can be used (although they will stay invisible when moved). Whenever I mine an area out that I intend to use as living space, I mass hide the rock with d->b->h - doing it right after mining and before building any furniture makes it as easy as drawing a rectangle over the newly mined out area. If you throw troglodytes into a pit with no exit they will throw tantrums. While a dwarf is transferring a captive troglodyte to an assigned cage, it can break free. Troglodytes are able to equip weapons and armor, but due to not being part of any civilization, this rarely comes into play, as they cannot make their own items. They can open doors if they are unlocked, but are unable to pass through locked ones. Troglodytes can learn skills (at half the rate of a civilized creature), but cannot speak. As troglodytes are considered sapient, their corpses can cause considerable amounts of stress if they are not disposed of properly. They are capable of causing serious injury to unarmed civilians, but are rather pathetic when faced with a modestly-equipped, halfway-competent military. While an individual may not pose a great threat to a fortress, they usually turn up in groups of 8 or so, and are more than eager to throw themselves at your entrances, whether they are guarded by hardened veterans and traps or not. Troglodytes are ugly, stupid creatures common in the upper cavern layers. ![]()
